What is the best part of being a developer?
Bringing static designs to life, closing the gap between engineering and concept. Spending a few hours on an interaction prototype to prove a point instead of discussing it on paper for days. Working with people that are better in what they do than you. Being part of a huge community. Seeing people interact with and enjoy something you’ve made.
What did you do yesterday?
Spend the day at work after a few days of out-of-town client meetings. Catching up on multiple projects, adding final polish to two soon-to-be-released products and planning for two projects entering their respective design phases soon.

I try to take any distraction or clutter off my screen and keep my desktop, dock and menu bar as clean as possible. My background is always some sort of space/astronomy picture. For the past few days it’s been a crazy panorama of Pluto from New Horizons.

Tell us a little about your latest projects
It’s typically a very mixed bag and I switch a lot between contexts which keeps things fresh and challenging. One project is an educational website for a local NYC museum consisting of a standard WP stack and another component with a Rails stack. Another project is a large gesture driven media wall for one of the big NYC cultural institutions. I just wrapped up an iOS-based interaction prototype for a science museum to study kinesthetic interactions as means to teach scientific principles. Just now I am ramping up for an interactive media wall for a university.
Who would you ask for advice, a dog or a cat?
A dog. Unless it was advice for being an evil jackass.
Tell me about a developer you know and admire:
Daniel Scheibel, my old roommate and co-founder of Brooklyn studio Red Paper Heart. He was my supervisor years ago while I was interning at Big Spaceship and has been a great friend and inspiration since. He set out to pursue what he loves doing and approaches everything with a refreshingly playful simplicity. I’ll always remember the “Keep it Simple” post-its he’d paste on my monitor when I’d get lost in overly complex details.
